Netbackup Status Codes

If the error occurs during a backup, pay attention to what you're backing up. This problem can occur if NetBackup tries to open a locked file or in the event of an excessively long file path. The file and directory path can be up to 1,023 characters in length, but the path is limited to 1,000 characters for snapshot backups. A NetBackup status code of 1 can also show up if a read error occurs, such as if the file is corrupt.
You might also encounter a status code of 1 during a synthetic backup. This error can occur if the image cannot be found, if true image restoration information has been pruned from the image or if the image format is unrecognized.
Status code 2 almost always indicates that a database backup has failed. This status code most commonly occurs when an organization uses an agent to back up a Microsoft SQL Server or a Lotus Notes database. It can also occur if an Enterprise Vault backup fails. The failure of a standard file system backup should not result in this status code.
Most of the time, status code 2 errors occur following an attempted SQL Server backup, especially when the backup policy lists multiple batch (BCH) files. The error is triggered when at least one of the batch files fails.
Veritas' recommended solution is to open a command prompt window and then navigate to \veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd. Next, use the following command to generate a detailed output of the primary server's policies:
NetBackup status code 5 occurs when the instant recovery of a VMware VM fails. There are two especially common causes of this error. First, status code 5 can occur if a vSphere configuration issue keeps it from mounting or activating the VM. Second -- and more commonly -- status code 5 happens if you accidentally specify the wrong resource pool or an incorrect temporary database.
I have a powershell module called NetBackupPS.psm1 , It has only 0-255 range status code and it's respective messages for the net-backup jobs. I need all status codes and their respective messages which are in net-backup jobs. Then only I can get all the error messages using my powershell script and report it to my client.
Now on lines 1241 - 1497 you'll find a long switch statement, that seems to define the text per status code. You may want to add the status codes you are expecting here, and make sure they fall within the range you re-defined earlier.
DISCLAIMER: I strongly advise you to reach out to the module's author. I wouldn't take modifying someone else code too lightly you never know how things may work together in the code. Everything I've said is based on a limited review of the .psm1 file code. Moreover, if you have legit status codes from NetBackup that the designer hasn't accommodated he/she may want to update their work etc...

The following document provides reference information about the error messages and status codesthat are used in the Cloud Storage XML API. For error messages and status codes used by theCloud Storage JSON API, see this page.
Error Response FormatCloud Storage uses the standard HTTP error reporting format. Successful requests returnHTTP status codes in the 2xx range. Failed requests return status codes in the 4xx and 5xx ranges.Requests that require a redirect returns status codes in the 3xx range. Error responses usuallyinclude an XML document in the response body, which contains information about the error.
None, unless this was a database backup performed through a database extension product (for example, NetBackup for Oracle or NetBackup for SQL Server). In those instances, code 0 means the backup script that started the backup ran without error. However, you must check other status as explained in the related NetBackup manual to see if the database was successfully backed up.
7. If a backup on a Windows NT NetBackup client fails with status code 11 and the client is using Open Transaction Manager (OTM) for open file management, it is possible that the error was caused by the OTM cache file being full. If this is the case and bpbkar activity logs are turned on, a message similar to the following should appear at the end of the backup:
Recommended Action: Check the NetBackup Problems report. Try to determine the file and why the error occurred. A possible cause is a permission problem with the file. For detailed troubleshooting information, create an activity log directory for the process that returned this status code. Then, retry the operation, and check the resulting activity log.
Check the NetBackup Problems report for clues on where and why the problem occurred. For detailed troubleshooting information, create an activity log directory for the process that returned this status code, retry the operation, and check the resulting activity log.
