The boards comes with an MMU (Memory Management Unit) and its here we will discuss what MMU means. MMU was build in Java which means it is a virtualization only, and not physical. In Java any process can load a class that disables the MMU (mprotect), making it practically invisible for the process. This process need to be able to execute privileged instructions as Java uses the MMU just to map memory to the process so there is no point mapping this memory. There are several drivers in AOSP that also use this trick. Mealybug drivers, SysSensors, calibre and other tools use this mealybug trick.
The MMU on REV B is loaded at the first boot of the board and is not available for any other process to tamper with. If for any reason the MMU has to be disabled, it can be done by simply rebooting the board. For developers this may be a problem, but for testing it is not an issue.
The bootloader requires a public key certificate to verify the authenticity of the provided download. The provided certificate is signed by a signing authority. After download and validation we wil be able to use the downloaded binary. Note: When you verify the download with Windows and accept the warning, the binary will be added to your local Windows certificate store.
The binary should be replaced with your binary and placed in the correct directory. Note: After replacement make sure the dedicated workspace contains the necessary building tools, SDK version and git branch.
The final part of this image is to add the required Android SDK tools environment and the hardware version information to the /etc/branding (re)initialization using the above mentioned /system.img image. d2c66b5586
